Description

Ofloxacin is a synthetic broadspectrum antibacterial agent belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. The mechanism of action of Ofloxacin involves inhibition of bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase (both of which are type II topoisomerases), enzymes required for DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination. Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole which has antimicrobial action against microaerophilic protozoa Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica and Trichomonas vaginalis and against obligate anaerobic bacteria.

Indications

Treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery of amoebic, bacterial or mixed origins.

Dosage and administration

The dosage is one tablet twice daily for 5 days.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to quinolone group of compounds or nitroimidazoles.
